In February 2010, Melbourne’s vibrant music scene rallied against the abrupt closure of iconic live venues, notably ‘The Tote’ in Collingwood, in the inner northern suburbs of the city. Live music has always been the heartbeat of Melbourne and its heart was starting to beat slowly as govt policy and business were eroding the very core essence of the live music scene. So 10-20k (even more) people set out to protest on a hot summer day. Many music icons who lived in Melbourne at the time joined the protest. I went along and was at the front of the march and was able to capture the vibe and feeling.
