Intentional Camera Movement

2023 Sydney

Honestly, street photography in 2023 doesn’t captivate me anymore. There’s a repetitive nature to it, where every second photo seems to echo the same scenes – people engrossed in their work or seated, buried in their phones. It has become incredibly monotonous and frustrating. Moreover, people seem wary when they spot someone with a DSLR, and there’s a peculiar psychology at play. Using my iPhone, strangely, doesn’t elicit the same reaction, even though I find it more intrusive than an SLR. Yet, bring out the SLR, and it’s perceived as an invasion of someone’s space. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced in the city I now call home, Sydney.

That’s why I’ve ventured into the realm of ICM photography. It allows me to express myself freely and lets the interplay of light and camera create some enchanting moments. The resulting images evoke a deeper emotional response compared to the typical and repetitive street photos saturating social media platforms. This shift doesn’t mean I’m giving up on photography altogether. I’ve merely pressed pause on street photography until the novelty of ICM wears off.
